The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) is a program that allows international students who have graduated from a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada to stay and work in the country for a period after completing their studies.
To be eligible for a PGWP, you must:
  • Have completed a study program at a DLI in Canada that was at least 8 months long.
  • Have maintained full-time student status during each semester of your study program.
  • Have graduated from a public post-secondary institution, such as a college or university, or a private post-secondary institution that follows the same rules as public institutions.
  • Apply for the PGWP within 180 days of receiving your final marks.
The length of the PGWP depends on the length of your study program:
  • If your program was between 8 months and less than 2 years, you may get a work permit for a period equal to the length of your program.
  • If your program was 2 years or longer, you may be eligible for a work permit of up to 3 years.
